About this tool

Count characters as you type, with separate totals including and excluding spaces. Built-in reference limits show how your text fits common platform constraints: an X/Twitter post (280), an SMS segment (160), a meta title (~60) and a meta description (~160).

Character limits are strict in ways word limits are not — one character over and a tweet won't post or a meta description gets truncated in search results. This counter runs locally in your browser, so it is safe for drafts you would not paste into a random website.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste text in the editor.
  2. Read the live totals with and without spaces.
  3. Check the platform bars to see remaining characters for each limit.

Frequently asked questions

Do emoji count as one character?

Visually yes, but technically many emoji are made of multiple Unicode code units. This tool counts user-perceived characters where the browser supports it, which matches how most platforms count.

Why count characters without spaces?

Some applications — translation pricing, certain academic submissions, classified ads — bill or limit by characters excluding spaces.

What is the real meta description limit?

Google truncates by pixel width rather than a fixed count, but roughly 155–160 characters is the safe practical range.
